The Royal Emirates Group of Companies, a Dubai business group headed by Sheik Butti bin Suhail Al Maktoum, bought the Spanish club Getafe. Kaiser Rafiq, a partner and managing director of the group, said the company paid between $100 million to $130 million for the team.
Sheik Butti is the latest Middle East investor to buy a European club. Abu Dhabi’s Sheik Mansour took over English Premier League team Manchester City in 2008, and a Qatar sheik purchased the Spanish club Málaga in June.
